Reading, imagination sparks creativity and creativity ignites long-lasting love
for reading” - Maricel S. Eduarte

To promote the love for reading and
to celebrate the diversity of learners and culture through reading, the
Department of Education (DepEd) is spearheading the nationwide celebration of
the 2019 National Reading Month (NRM) this November. This marks the National Reading
Month Celebration as per DepEd Memorandum No. 158 s. 2018 with the theme “Magbasa’t
Umunlad.”
Mrs. Margarita Ochinang tells a story. |
Our school, spearheaded by our school
head, Mr. Ricardo S. Tambogon, prepared various reading activities that were made
available for pupils. Activities were scheduled by grade level from kinder to
grades 3 which was story telling by Mrs. Margarita R. Ochinang. The story
telling has still been proven, as the well-loved classic reading activity especially
among primary learners. After which, all pupils were excited to hear the
poem reading of Mrs. Marlyn C. Casabar. These activities are enjoyable part of reading and reading is one of the very important elements of education.
Understanding what we are reading is also a key and is certainly the main point
of teaching reading. After the poem reading, a Mystery Reader in the person of Ms.
Vanessa Milanes read a story and asked questions that were answered by the
pupils.

To conclude, reading is a skill that need
to be developed. To address and develop the love of reading of learners,
teachers, learners, parents and the whole community must work together and
engage themselves in making reading a habit and interesting. Reading opens our minds and hearts to new ideas
and allows us to communicate effectively to someone. Reading is the key to a
brighter future. Let’s all read!
