          “Books simply give wisdom.” The “Give a Book Project” of Tabuyoc Church of Nazarene led by Rev. Peter Paul Domen and Benedict Tiu of BNL Enterprise selected Dumayat Elementary School as the recipient last December 20, 2019. The donated books are English, Mathematics, Science, Filipino, Children’s storybooks, novels and magazines that will be helpful in making school’s library a repository of knowledge and wisdom for the learners and the community.

          Some of the books donated, like children’s story books and coloring books, will be distributed to young learners as part of the school’s advocacy on 3Bs (Bawat Bata Bumabasa) initiative. These will help them love books and eventually will lead to love of reading.

          According to the proponent of the “Give a Book Project”, donating books help children because it make sense of the world around them, impart morals and values to them, often without sounding preachy, teach them empathy, and the difference between right and wrong. Moreover, children who can’t read are unable to learn and this impacts their schooling.

          Mr. Ricardo S. Tambogon, school head, believes that books change one’s life because reading changed your life. Books have been our friends, our partners-in-crime, our confidante. They’ve transported us to new places, helped us find solutions to our problems and, often, simply provided an avenue to escape our reality. For the less fortunate, books are considered a luxury and they simply cannot afford them. Donated books can change that by providing much-needed access.

          Dumayat Elementary School is fortunate to have stakeholders in making our dream for school children a reality.

December 26, 2019- Setsuo Okada, a volunteer teacher of 神戸市立兵庫大開小学校, visited Dumayat Elementary School for a collaboration project. The collaboration project is a school culture exchange program especially on Japanese and English Language sharing. Mr. Okada is a teacher of the Japanese Language in the said school where he teaches different nationalities like Cambodians. Vietnamese, Chinese and others. He is much interested on the educational system of Philippines especially in elementary education. He asked about English and Filipino education.

Books are good source of knowledge. According to Victoria of http://mcxl.se/thoughts/the-importance-of-books-in-our-life/, books play a significant role in our life. “When you open a book, you open a new world”. Everyone would agree that books have become inevitable to mankind. For many people, books are part of their everyday life.  A book is like a best friend who will never walk away from you. Books are packed with knowledge, insights into a happy life, life lessons, love, fear, prayer and helpful advice. One can read about anything under the sun. Books have been here for centuries and without them today’s knowledge of our past ancestors, cultures and civilizations would have been impossible.

On December 17, 2019, Matatag Book Distributor of Urdaneta City donated several books for the learners. Mrs. Flordeliza Rafanan, the CEO, said that their advocacy on giving books to school is their top priority. It is one way of giving out the blessings that they receive and continuous outreach program of their company. Mrs. Elisa M. Ochinang, Adopt-A-School Program Coordinator, received the donated books for the school.

Indeed, this kind of generosity is commendable. It is true that books are necessary in our lives and they communicate knowledge and wisdom of all kinds. The more you read, the more well-read you are.         December is Christmas season. It is a tradition to celebrate Christmas gatherings or year-end parties in every organizations. Part of this gathering is Christmas Parol or Lantern Making Contest. This competition gathers the full collaboration of every one in coming up with unique and beautiful lanterns.

        In DES, teachers, learners and parents worked together in making their grade level Christmas lanterns. These lanterns symbolizes the most iconic symbol of Christmas spirit. This star-shaped lanterns are displayed hanging in the school social hall and will select the top 3 best ‘parol’. These lanterns are made out of recycled, indigenized, and localized materials. It is also an expression of shared faith and hope. It also symbolizes the triumph and goodwill of every parent, learner and teacher.

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. It is a much-awaited holiday not just for learners and kids at heart – it is indeed a celebration of the wonders of life for everyone. It is the season to rejoice and take pride of all the blessings you have been provided for the whole year. Christmas allows you to look forward for another glorious year.

        Giving special recognition to hardworking, dedicated and highly motivated teachers is appreciating their effort and wholehearted service to our learners. A simple recognition will definitely boosts the confidence and morale of the teachers that will result to continuous improvement and excellence to the teaching profession.

        This month, two teachers of DES were awarded as “Teachers of the Month”. They were Janet G. Sibolboro, Kindergarten Teacher and Elisa M.Ochinang, Grade 5 adviser. These two teachers had showcased their love and devotion in developing learners, remarkable achievement and commendable contributions in our school.

        Mr. Ricardo Tambogon, the school head, explained about the criteria in selecting the awardees. It includes teachers’ recognition that reflect above and beyond the defined boundaries of their duties and responsibilities and demonstrate punctuality and participate in at least one school sponsored extra-curricular event and demonstrates effective communication and outreach to the school and community.

        It is rewarding to see teachers who received a recognition for their effort and love for the school.

        Library is an important facility in every school. A library is place of knowledge where learners open books, read books and share stories. It is also place toaccess variety of learning resources. The goal of having a school library hub and learning center is to ensure that all members of the school community have equitable access to books and reading, to information, and to information technology.

        On December 11, 2019, Dumayat Elementary School launched the School Library Hub and Learning Center. Teachers of DES and school heads of Binalonan District I with the District Supervisor, Dr. Ana Jean Asuncion and Mr. Ricardo S. Tambogon, school head of DES, led the ribbon cutting of the school library hub. Mrs. Marlyn C. Casabar offered a simple prayer as part of the ceremony. Dr. Asuncion, stated that “the purpose of this school library is to help every member of your school community to gain new knowledge, skills, and dispositions for learning and personal development that they will use throughout their lives”.

        The DES School library hub and learning center is part of the advocacy in making every learner a reader and disseminating wider information landscape. The school library connects with learners in which they can use to access information. The benefits of the library include providing access to more sources of print and digital materials to support reading and inquiry learning, offering support to each school to improve reading and literacy skills, and confidence and improving achievement through involvement in the library program that will be implemented in the next coming years.

        Indeed, DES is now considered a school where continuous improvement and development take place. More improvements are paving our way and DES will shine like a diamond. All this, Glory to God Almighty!

Dumayat Elementary School held a simple but meaningful program “Kindergarten Festival of Talents” held on December 2, 2019 in celebration of the National Children’s Month. This event aimed to showcase the talents of the kindergarten pupils which they gained in their respective classroom through the mentoring of their teacher in various learning activities.

The program started with a prayer led by a kinder pupil Miss. Jennifer C. De Guzman and followed by singing of the National Anthem by audio visual presentation. The adviser, Mrs. Janet G. Sibolboro gave her message to the kinder pupils. The pupils show their intermission number with a dance entitled “Manok na Pula”.  After their group presentation, each pupil showed their talents in singing, dancing, modelling and poem recitation.

Every pupil is very happy to show their individual talent. Another presentation was showcased by the group of girls dancing to the tune of “Girl in the mirror”. After the showcasing of talents of the kindergarten pupils, the adviser awarded the certificate of recognition to the kids.

It was a wonderful moment to the kindergarten pupils to celebrate and showcase their talents.

The Campfire

“Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.” This is one of the most valuable lines everyone learned during the Joint BSP-GSP Encampment held at Dumayat Elementary School, Binalonan, Pangasinan on December 06-07, 2019. It was a two-day camping activity participated by the scouts of the school.

Actively participating in the GSP & BSP Encampment provides development and learning. The activities on the encampment were designed on the development of skills that would turn them into independent and self- reliant young men and women.

The registered GSP of Dumayat Elementary School headed by our school head, Mr. Ricardo S. Tambogon, and the Troop Leaders supported the different activities and Clean and Green Program that took another vital step in advocating care and love to our environment and the message to everyone and the importance and awareness of with the Troop Leaders aim to build respect and understanding as well as physical development.

The standing of tents and the building of camp happened on the first day. This was followed by awarding of Mr. BSP and Miss GSP and a simple ceremony to all scouts. Afterwards, the program started with a prayer and the recitation of the Scout’s Oath and Law. Mr. Ricardo S. Tambogon gave his inspiring message and officially opened the encampment activity. Showcasing of talents and skills were demonstrated on the first night of the encampment.

Everyone was prepared on the next day for the games. Twinkler, Kid, Star and Kab Scouts participated in the different games. There is a simultaneous activities for the boy and girl scouts. In the afternoon, the awarding ceremony and closing program took place with the BSP and GSP coordinators who awarded the certificates and prizes for the winners.

Indeed, this was the time the year that the encampment delivered the importance and awareness of developing scouts on survival skills, physical fitness and good camaraderie. Likewise, this is the preparation of scouts to become resilience and environmentally aware. The prepared activities aimed to build respect and understanding as well as physical development, and providing multi- disciplinary learning for the boys and girls in making an impact through community-sharing, clean up drive and tree planting partnership the community, Troop Leaders and BSP and GSP. It was a great learning experience and meaningful encampment to all scouts.

The Boy and Girl Scout of the Philippines Campment was meaningful and loaded with lifelong learning. This was well-implemented through the collaborative effort of the teachers, scouts, parents, and the whole community.

Kindergarten Good Behavior Awardees

To promote positive discipline and to encourage good manners and right conduct, Dumayat Elementary School awarded students with good behaviors every month. The “Good Behavior Awards” was launched on November, 2019 and the school will choose students who are Most Courteous, Most Discipline, Most Responsible, Most Industrious and Mr. and Miss Good Grooming. Certificate of recognitions shall be awarded every first week of the month during the school flag ceremony.

This month, several pupils received their good behavior award for continually showing and manifesting these behaviors in the school and in their classrooms. Being nice and sweet to others, helping teachers and schoolmates or other people, saying ‘thank you’ and ‘please’, picking up toys after play, being industrious and doing their assigned tasks happily and with great joy, greetings of ‘good morning, good afternoon’ to their teachers and schoolmates are just few criteria in choosing the award for the learners.

“In Dumayat Elementary School, we want to develop learners not only on their intellectual aspects but most importantly on their behavior. Mannered and well-behaved learners are asset of the school and the nation as a whole” said Ricardo S. Tambogon, Head Teacher III. And he added, “Most schools have some sort of award program to recognize students for achieving the honor roll, having perfect attendance, or excelling in academic areas. Most students received an award, but there were always some who didn't receive anything at all. Typically these children were the very ones who show positive behaviors all year and some with difficulties and who are facing difficulties and lack of parent support at home that’s why I would like to promote this kind of award to motivate learners and make them feel important in our school.”

Truly, this is a simple yet meaningful award for the learners. Going up the stage means developing their power of self-confidence. Mabuhay Dumayat Elementary School!

In the beautiful town of Binalonan, there is one barangay that showcased the spirit of bayanihan, unity and camaraderie. This is barangay Dumayat where Dumayat Elementary School is located. This barangay has been the home of family “Ochinang”.  This family has been the main stakeholder and supporter of the school since it was established on 1972. The family always believe that “we must give more in order to get more. It is the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest.” A prominent, respected, religious and kindhearted family who is easy to approach and talk to.

             One of the families in the Ochinang clan was the former barangay council and now departed Kgwd. Perfecto Ochinang, Sr. Hon. Ochinang’s better half is Mrs. Lolita Dres-Ochinang. He served barangay Dumayat for three consecutive terms and who was in-charged of education. Upon his designation as education in-charged, he did his duties and responsibilities in helping the school specifically on the establishment of the school, provision of school site and ownership. His presence in every school activity, program and project was felt and inspiring. Barangay Dumayat is fortunate to have a man whose heart cared and loved the school for he believed that the school is a place where learning takes place and the future lies in it.

            Hon. Perfecto Ochinang, Sr. and Mrs. Lita Dres-Ochinang have five children namely: Teofila Ochinang-Sevesa, Carina Ochinang-Barrientos, a BS Biology graduate from University of Baguio, Beth Ochinang-Barrientos, resides in Israel, Valentina Ochinang-Cervantes and Engr. Perfecto Ochinang, Jr, a graduate of BS Mechanical engineer in university of the East, Manila. These five children of Hon. & Mrs. Ochinang are still the prime movers of the school. They continue serving and giving their support to Dumayat Elementary School. As a blessing from above, these siblings are successful in their chosen career and life.

On the family of their first born, Teofila Ochinang-Sevesa was a graduate of Dumayat Elementary School batch 1978 and Sta. Maria NHS on her secondary level. She finished her Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Accounting at St. Louis University, Baguio City. Presently, she is a business woman in Metro Manila. She is married to Engr. Rolando Sevesa, who was a graduate of Electrical Engineer in SLU Baguio City and a retired MMDA as Electrical Engineer. Engr. Rolando and Mrs. Teofila has three successful children. The eldest is Kristelle Mae O. Sevesa, a graduate of De La Salle University in BS Computer Engineering and currently works in Sydney Australia as Senior Project Analyst at National Australia Bank. The second child is Dianne Catherine O. Sevesa who graduated BS in Management of Financial Institutions in De La Salle University, Manila. She currently works in Financial Times, Bonifacio Global City as Management Accountant. The youngest child, Roel Christian O. Sevesa, is just graduated in De La Salle University College of St. Benilde with the course of Bachelor of Science in Information Systems.

            This family is a mirror of oneness and unity. In their heart, charity is an utmost priority for they continue to help the school in many ways. Recently they donated the school landmark of Dumayat ES. Also, they helped the classrooms of Kindergarten and Grade One in the provision of the ceiling frames. Moreover, they provided the school financially on the construction of school fences. These are just a few of the numerous assistance they provided in the school.

            Mrs. Teofila and Engr. Rolando continue to live the legacy of charity and love for school of the late Hon. Perfecto Ochinang, Sr. This legacy will be passed on to their generations as the school exists and needs their services. They are great example of generous persons who give without thought of reward and without strings attached—just for the joy of giving and making something better.

            There are also numerous people who have helped the school to what it is now. It is truly an act of bayanihan. I have to continue to believe that when people act from compassion to care and to help for others, they live longer, have better health, and are happier people with contented life.

Dumayat Elementary School garnered several pupil-awards in the different competitions conducted in the district, division and congressional level. This shows that the school continuously improve itself in academics and extracurricular activities. This also marks the beginning of achieveing the school’s priority projects for the next coming years.

On GSP, the 5^th Congressional Girl Scout Week celebration was conducted on October, 2019 at the Divine World Colleges. The GSP team of Criselle Ann S. Ravanilla, Raven Jhyzyrhyll G. Sibolboro, Maflyn Gallestre, Anica Jhoy B. Dres and Blessy Ann S. Sanchez sixth grade pupils emerged as champion of the Colorful Party GPN in Junior Level coached and mentored by Mrs. Marlyn C. Casabar and Mrs. Maricel S. Eduarte. Likewise, Ysabelle O. Angus landed as 3^rd runner up in Ms. Escoda (STAR) contest coached by Mrs. Margarita Ochinang.

Moreover, during the District Technolympics and Festival of Talents, another victory from the sixth grader- Ms. Criselle Ann S. Ravanilla won the 1^st place in the Fruits & Vegetables Carving while Miss Vanessa Milanes won 3^rd place in Vocal Solo for Teachers.

On Science Quest, Edd Carlou S. Dres, a fifth grader was among the top three (3) in Sci-Writing Contest (District Level) held at Sta. Catalina Elementary School, Binalonan, Pangasinan.
